The digital printing method has taken over the printing industry, and for a good reason. From the overall cost of printing digitally to the quality of the finished product, both businesses and consumers have benefited from the introduction of this new method.
What Is Digital Printing?
Digital printing is a printing method in which images are processed through a computer and then printed directly onto your shirt, hoodie, cap, or other apparel items. Digital printing is also known as direct-to-garment printing, DTG. Rather than a transfer of an image, like in screenprinting, the digital printing method prints the ink directly onto the product’s surface.
Why Digital Printing Is Better Than Other Methods
Without mentioning the superior quality of the image detail on the apparel, there are so many other reasons that digital printing trumps other forms of printing, such as screenprinting.
- DTG allows for affordable printing of both large and small quantity orders.
- DTG has a quick turnaround time.
- DTG is more affordable because the process is less involved and labor-intensive.
Screen Printing Vs. Digital Printing
Consumers often compare screen printing and digital printing. To explain, the difference between the two is mainly how the graphic is put onto the apparel. In the screen printing process, a stencil of the chosen design is applied to the apparel by pressing the stencil and screen onto the garment of choice. In contrast, the digital printing process prints the design directly onto the garment with ink. Another difference between these two methods is the thickness of the “ink” applied to the garment. Digital printing applies a thin ink layer, whereas screen printing applies the image onto the shirt with a much thicker ink that you can tangibly feel.
